Had a GREAT time last Saturday up in London with my best mate Rich – we went to LOUD TATE at Tate Britain, which was an event providing free activities and live music for the attendant youth. As part of that youth, we didn’t perhaps sample the full range of freebies available to us, but we managed to achieve my days objective – taking part in the Lazy Oaf tshirt workshop. I love Lazy Oaf. They are an amazing creative label from East London who make really interesting tshirts and jewellery. I am really interested in their business set-up also.
Along the way to Tate Britain, I discovered this amazing monument which I had never seen before, (in the park next to the Houses of Parliament) but which really reminded me of my white Gormenghast sculpture. I tried to get a picture of myself inside it, but you can’t really see me, plus the light is obscuring the brilliant roof tiling. See the other photo below for a better view.

So this is how my tshirt turned out. I’m quite pleased with it! I think I am going to cut it up a bit before wearing (take the neck off for a start).
We had sheets of coloured vinyl to cut into shapes which then were fixed onto the fabric by a heat press. The guy sitting next to me liked my friendly hills so much that I had to make one for his tshirt! Rich made an incredible owl design on a black tshirt, but the heat press didnt work properly on his! Shame shame.
Other highlights of the day included looking around Tate Britain itself and admiring the building and gallery spaces as well as coming across Ros who used to run Art Forum at Wolverhampton Art Gallery when I was in 6th Form (it was an after-school club I used to love). We also had loads of time to sunbathe in the park!

Here are some of Lazy Oaf’s designs that I particularly admire. I love the way they print collars onto tshirts, and the reversible sweatshirt is great.
