Viktor & Rolf are a pair of dutch designers who create not only beautiful, innovative fashion pieces, but who push forward the idea of the catwalk show as a performance piece. They often take topical subjects and translate them into striking visual messages. I love all their work – the SS10 stuff is pretty amazing again. Layers and layers of tulle which look like they have been hacked with a chainsaw. This is meant to represent an encouragement to the continuation of creativity during recession when everyone is ‘cutting’ back. As they say in this interview – Viktor and Rolf are intent on remaining authentic and original especially in trying times. The feature on them in Dazed&Confused Feb issue is worth a look also – great images.
When I was writing my dissertation I sent a question to be put to Viktor & Rolf at a Q&A at The Barbican. You can watch the video online of my name and question being read out to actual Viktor and Rolf!! (I think its about minute 26!) GEEk.
